4-VEP EMU at Mid Hants Railway and Swanage Railway

On 26th to 28th April EMU 3417 (or 423417) visited the MHR for its Diesel Gala. It also visited the Swanage Railway 9th to 12th May.

The unit is seen here passing through Aldershot station hauled by 66738 on its way from Clapham Junction Yard to Alton on 25th May.

On Saturday 27th April i was fortunate to be rostered late turn Guard 1E which meant I would work the unit for 3 round trips from Alton from 1610 to 2200.

Below are some photos taken on 26th April.

Alton

The Shunter put headcode 38 (Waterloo - Reading via Richmond) on the blinds for me

while waiting for unit to leave sidings I took some photos of the Guards area

Unfortunately when the train got to Alresford 33109 shut down and would not start. It was decided to use 66738 for the rest of the evening on the train.

I was a passenger on the 28th and took some more photos

I suggested this headcode (Alton to Waterloo slow) as it was sunday

And so to the Swanage Railway and the reason for visiting on the 9th May

Tempting
My ticket for the day. Free cos I'm a working volunteer at MHR

So here are the photos

Phew, a lot of photos there but I enjoy the nostalgia of slam door electric units. Perhaps one day soon 3417 will be able to main line on her own using the third rail. Now that would be great.
