Newcastle Day Trip

18/1/14

Another day trip to Newcastle. My last visit was on 28/1/12. Once again cheap fares from East Coast Trains encouraged my decision to visit. One again I had 2 advance first class singles for £25 each.
Photos were not taken of all pubs, just ones I thought I have not taken previously.

Outside Kings Cross station to view the recently revealed facade.

 Looking towards St Pancras station

Some views of the new Kings Cross Western Concourse

And at 1149 I arrived in Newcastle.

A full list of beers drunk is at the end of this blog.

A day trip to Brighton

11/1/14

Weather forecast was good so my first day trip of the year was to Brighton. The pub scene has changed it a bit in recent years so armed with a map and pub list (thanks MTMM) this is what I found.

The low sun made it tricky for some photos today.

First stop was the Quadrant for a half of Langham brewerys Arapaho 4.9%

Then to the Bright Helm (Wetherspoons) for a half of Everards - Devils Bacbone IPA 5.9%  (no photos)

Next stop the Craft Beer Co for a couple of locales from Brighton Bier: West Pier 4% and Grand Havana 5%

Next pub was the Victory for a half of Langhams Hip Hop 4%

Tamplin's brewery in Brighton closed in 1973

Pub du Vin next. Two beers from Pope's brwery in Worcester here. Hop Market 3.8% and Victorian Chestnut Ale 4%

The Pump House (Nicholsons) was next and very busy so only a quick stop for a half of Brains- Bragging Rights 5%

Close by was the Sussex Arms, not on my list but stopped for a half of Anchor Springs Brewery Hornblower 4.5%

On the way to the next pub I spotted this Ironmongers shop

Then to the Post & Telegraph (Wetherspoons) for a half of Summerskills - Bolt Head 4.7% (no photos)

At the Waggon and Horses for a half of Downlands Brewery Devil's Dyke Porter 5%

It was ok to take this photo

On the way to my final pub I thought I'd better take another non pub photo

And so to the my final pub, the North Laine complete with its own on site brewery.

A third of each of

And a half of each of

Some photos of the pub and brewery.

A great afternoon out drinking mostly locale beers. A number of new pubs visited. There is a great variety of pubs and bars here, this being a small selection.

Next day trip is to Newcastle on 18th Jan.

First one of 2014

Thanks to a significant but not life changing lottery win I have booked 3 day trips by train for the coming weeks.

I will be revisiting Newcastle (last visit was 30/1/12) and Leeds (last visit was June 2012).

The third day out will be to Kettering. Never been here before but been through the station lots of times.

All the above trips will be using First Class Advance tickets from London.

I have also bought a few DVDs to watch:

Star Trek - The Next Generation : The Full Journey. All episodes plus extras on 49 discs

Star Trek - The Movies 1-10. Only 12 discs here.

That should keep me happy for a while.

I will of course keep you my happy reader informed of all the gory details of the day trips in future blogs.
