A few hours in York

Saturday 12th January 2013.

A day trip to York, taking advantage of cheap fares on East Coast Trains.

Due to engineering work the train was diverted between Doncaster and York via Knottingley in both dierctions so I got to travel over some unusual track. A number of beers were drunk and are listed at each pub. (half pints of each).

First pub to visit was the Postern Gate, a Wetherspoons pub. Located as the ground floor of a Travelodge, I declined to take a photo.
Beer1: Saltaire-White Christmas

Next was the Rook and Gaskill

Beer 2: Blue Bee-Nectar Pale

Opposite here was the Waggon & Horses which I wanted to visit. It advertised as opening at 12 but by 1215 was still closed so off to the next pub.

Next stop Pivni.

Beer 4: Tempest-Wee Unforgiven
Beer 5: Mallinsons-Magnum Ella

Then to The Habit. Not been here before. Its a small cafe bar type place with 2 handpumps.

Beer 6: Hop Studio-There is Noel in Christmas
Beer 7: Yorkshire Heart-JRT Bitter

Then to the Old Starre Inn (no photos)

Beer 8: Cullingham Ales-Artisan's Choice

Another new outlet next. The House of Trembling Madness is a bar above an off licence.

Beer 9: Revolutions-Beat Red

The Guy Fawkes was the next stop.

Then a quick stop to take pictures of the local church

And then off to another York brewery pub, The Three Legged Mare.

I then took a walk along the side of the River Ouse to the next pub and took some more photos.

And arrived at the Bay Tree Inn.

Luckily there is now a pub on the station called the York Tap.

Some East London Brew Pubs

Saturday 26th January 2013

After my Cable Car ride over the Thames I visited 3 pubs in East London, all with their own brewery.

First stop was Tap East at Stratford. See also my blog entry from November 2011

I had a half of each the following beers:

Then it was my first visit to Crate in Hackney. Located at Queens Yard just off White Post Lane 5 minutes walk from Hackney Wick Overground station.

So there you go. 3 brew pubs all very close together via London Overground stations at Stratford, Hackney Wick and Hackney Central.

First one for 2013 - 2 Winchester pubs

My first post of 2013. Hope you all survived the excesses of the recent holiday period.

On 27th December I stopped of in Winchester on my way home. 2 reasons. To visit a friends new flat and visit a new brew pub.

The pub in question is the Fulflood Arms.

Some pics of the brewery

I had a pint of Fulflood Best. Not the greatest beer in the world but drinkable. The pub has a good mix of seating styles available and I quite like the pub.

On the way back to the station I went into the St James Tavern, a Wadworth house. Their Christmas ale Jingle Drays was drunk here tasting much like their normal beers but with a few spices thrown in.

Bit of a tardis pub this, bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside.
